Worldcoin’s World ID finds a bridge to Solana through the Wormhole
On September 13, Worldcoin announced the launch of seamless World ID integration for the Solana blockchain through a new cross-chain protocol from the Wormhole Foundation.
According to a WorldCoin blog post, Wormhole Foundation has successfully completed the platform bridge two and a half months after being announced as a recipient of the Wave1 Community Grants.
Cross-platform authentication
World ID is built on top of Worldcoin's layer-2 Ethereum chain, World Chain. Its primary purpose is as a privacy-enabled human authentication service. It is designed to allow secure, authenticated logins to decentralized applications (DApps) and other services without exposing personal user information.

The integration allows developers working on the Solana network to easily build World ID authentication into DApps with the added benefit of compatibility with services on the Ethereum chain.
Per Robinson Berkey, co-founder of the Wormhole Foundation:
“Bringing World ID to Solana is a huge step forward in identity verification. By integrating World ID and wormhole queries, developers can now easily build applications that prioritize real users on-chain, improving trust in the decentralized ecosystem.”
Use of Worldcoin
According to information from WorldCoin, the company As of July 31, 2024, it has 6,630,191 million users. It's not clear how many of those users are participating in the DApp economy with their World ID login, but the number of Worldcoin users has seen steady growth since its launch in July. 24, 2023.

According to Cointelegraph, Worldcoin recently became the second European country to host its service in Austria. The company previously operated in Spain, but concerns over data privacy and age verification controls led it to voluntarily cease operations.
Worldcoin adoption has also increased recently in Southeast Asia. In August, the Malaysian government adopted WorldID as a standard authentication service alongside a strategic partnership to expand production capacity for WorldCoin's Orb identification hardware.
