X Launches Ai-Based Audiences For Advertisers

Social media platform X Business Account has announced a new feature for advertisers enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI).

On May 10, the platform said that the “AI Audience” feature is coming soon. This feature allows advertisers to briefly define their target audience for a given ad, and then X's AI systems generate a pool of “most relevant X users” for that target within seconds.

A user entered their target audience as “Technology Leaders” and specified “Users who are leaders in technology”. Within seconds, the AI generated a list with hundreds of users in the target audience along with demographic statistics.

Although there was no further comment on the development, the post was reposted by X owner Elon Musk.

Meanwhile, responding to the first post, one user commented that this would be a “game changer” for the advertising world and “worth your money” on the platform. However, he questioned how good AI is at targeting the right audience.

If AI can be proven to accurately identify effective audiences over time, this move could put X ahead of other platforms when it comes to advertising, as other platforms still need research to target the right audiences.

However, other users were concerned about AI reinforcing and perpetuating biases and stereotypes.

Another user asked what exactly X is selling and “to whom”. The user said, “I thought I was the one paying for X to not target brands and sell to companies.

Despite some skepticism, many users called the development “exciting” and “really clever”.

This development comes amid Musk's active stance on integrating AI into social media platforms.

On March 26, Musk announced that X's own AI model, Grok, would be accessible to all Premium X subscribers. On March 29, the next version of the model, Grok-1.5, was announced. It is said to have “enhanced reasoning capabilities” and a context length of 128,000 tokens.

Amidst the lawsuit between Musk and OpenAI, with which he had a previous relationship, on March 11, X's owner said he would open-source Grok.

Although Musk's AI company xAI is actively working on new tools for mass use, in January Musk denied the accuracy of reports that xAI had raised $500 million of its $1 billion investment goal.
