Word games are a perfect fit for smartphones, as they are easy to control, often suitable for short bursts of play, and help keep your mind running here and there during a stressful day. However, most of them won't let you earn Bitcoin to play—but Word Breeze does.
Developed by Playday Studios and released as part of the larger Bling Financial lineup of mobile games, Word Breeze is a simple yet fun word generation game available for both iOS and Android.
While the iPhone and iPad version doesn't mention Bitcoin in the title or description, both apps allow you to earn in-game points that can be converted to BTC or Ethereum and withdrawn to a Coinbase account or PayPal in US dollars. It's a premise we've seen with other mobile games like SweetBitcoin and Ethereum Blast, all of which share the same login and redemption process.
It's an interesting but very familiar premise. Given small letters, you need to write as many words as you can to fill the spaces above. It's part crossword game, part anagram solver, and nothing particularly new—I've certainly played a few mobile games like this over the years. But the touch screen wordplay is a strong interpretation.
And as mentioned, there are Bitcoin rewards to be had here. But check your expectations: Word Breeze earns me slightly more bitcoins than the other mobile crypto-earning games I mentioned for DecryptGG, but it still feels like a bargain compared to how annoying the awesome ads are. I see.
In about two hours' worth of play, I managed to zip through about 75 levels of the game – and that ended up taking about half of the total allotted time. The other half is spent watching the same handful of repetitive, full-screen, and mostly unskippable ads, often for fraudulent-looking games that claim to pay hundreds of dollars a day.
Word Breeze certainly doesn't do that. During that time, I earned enough Bling points to convert to 510 satoshis or 0.00000510 bitcoins. As of this writing, the price is over $0.13. That's in the same general ballpark as other blogging games that generally offer $0.05 to $0.10 per hour.
Is it worth it? Your mileage may vary.
Personally, I'd rather play a fun game that isn't dripping with obnoxious ads than earn pennies per hour. But if you're looking for “stacking” and a small stack of BTC, Word Breeze is legitimately fun and engaging—at least when you can play it.
