as a DecryptGG recently reported, Bitcoin Miner was first launched several years ago without real BTC earnings, and it never went anywhere. But after Fumb Games tried to implement the ability to earn and withdraw satoshis (the smallest unit of Bitcoin or 1/100,000,000 BTC), downloads shot through the roof and players kept coming back.

And now after playing Bitcoin Miner every day for over a week, I totally got it. As with all these games, the amount of bitcoins you earn is incredibly small – and the full-screen video ads you'll have to endure along the way are especially annoying when they're promoting some kind of scam. Games frequently.

But unlike many of these games, Bitcoin Miner packs a punch of personality thanks to its pixel art and references to various coins, and is fun fodder for those of us in this very funny industry.

You won't make any serious money from this game, but it's fun to jump in for a few minutes at a time – and you will some Bitcoin to play it.

Bitcoin Mining is a simple idle “clicker” game that rewards you for repeatedly tapping a button. You start out as a crypto miner – a little pixel person sitting at a computer, generating little pixel coins that occasionally slide into your piggy bank. As you deposit more coins, you can invest in additional levels for your mine and improve the rate at which you generate rewards.

Before long, you'll have a (fake!) bag that produces lots of minerals Ethereum, Dogecoin, Solana, Shiba Innu, and finally Bitcoin. Reinvesting your coins in mine upgrades will only increase your earning potential, plus you can unlock and equip “managers” for extra bonuses, unlock more mines in other regions, and more.

Admittedly, there isn't much depth to the game, but there's always another update, upgrade or expansion to pour your coins into – and plenty of opportunities to watch those catchy video ads to boost your earnings or unlock other perks.

Along the way, you will also earn real bitcoins in the form of satoshis that can be withdrawn to the ZBD wallet. Lightning network. Sometimes Satoshis appear on screen to tap and claim, other times they're hidden in the in-game store or awarded as a daily login reward. For the most part, you'll find them through simple on-screen game missions.

It doesn't add up to full bitcoins to actually cash out. After five hours of play, I've collected 236 satoshis – that's about $0.16 worth of Bitcoin as of this writing. That's on par with most mobile Bitcoin games, including one where you can earn as little as a few cents per hour. Fumb's own asteroid-mining game, SpaceY.

Don't play Bitcoin Miner because you think you're going to make bank. Play because it's a funny riff on the crypto market and the numbers always add up in this fake video game economy – unlike the real crypto market. I'm still playing because I want to see how wild the fake returns can be, even if the real bitcoins I get are ultimately easier.
