Zk-Proofs Are More Affordable Than Legacy Id Systems - Cysic Founder

Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proofs in decentralized identity applications have sparked debate in the crypto industry – some argue that ZK is too expensive and complex to implement.

While ZK authentications have historically been expensive, they are still more cost-effective than older ID systems run by central institutions, said Leo Fan, co-founder of ZK hardware company CCSic.

In an interview with Cointelegraph, the co-founder explained that the hardware and more efficient generation of proofs have significantly reduced the costs and deadlines of ZK-proofs, much less than traditional ID systems that require extensive bureaucracies and billions of dollars. do. Fan said:

“Zero-knowledge proofs were very expensive to make earlier this year, but we've been speeding up proof generation to make it more convenient for people. So in that sense, we're lowering the barrier to using ZDK.”

The time needed to generate ZK-proofs is now around 10 seconds, Fan says, making ZK a “public good” that maximizes privacy while still retaining the filtering functions required for authentication and decentralized authentication.

Other countries accept identity solutions supported by ZK.

The Sysik co-founder recently praised the rollout of a ZK-powered digital ID to 3.6 million residents in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Government officials announced on October 21 that QuarkID has joined the MiBA digital identification framework, giving individuals more autonomy over their biometric data.

In August, Worldcoin installed its World ID Orbos in Vienna, Austria. The devices collect biometric data by scanning users' irises and converting unique personal identifiers into cryptographic credentials that can be authenticated.

Later that month, the Malaysian government signed an agreement with Worldcoin to integrate the company's iris scanning orbs into the country's official identification system.

The partnership also includes Tools for Humanity and MyEG – an organization focused on bridging the gap between government services and the public.
