As zero-knowledge (ZK) systems advance, an executive can see a future in which an artificial intelligence chat can make progress similar to that created by GPT.

ZK-proof is a method of verifying data while protecting privacy. It allows one party to verify the truth without revealing hidden information.

ZK allows public blockchains to verify the existence of hidden data. With this, crypto users can verify the legitimacy of data without revealing its content.

While the technology is still in its infancy, some believe it will have the same impact as ChatGPT and experience similar waves of interest as it gains widespread adoption.

Discussion time for ZK

In an interview with Cointelegraph at Token2049 in Dubai, Telos Foundation CEO John Lillick said there is no way to ignore ZK because it is fundamental. Lilik describes the technology as “the end game.”

Lilik believes that people will not pay much attention to ZK soon because the concept is difficult to understand. However, the executive is confident that there will come a time when ZK systems will initially attract as much attention as ChatGPT. Lilik said:

“Nobody thinks that much. And then, suddenly, it all comes together on networks with very good ZK systems. You'll see how quickly the ChatGPT thing came up. Suddenly, it was everywhere. I think it goes with Zeke.

On April 19, the Telos Foundation partnered with Ponos Technology to develop a Layer-2 network using the Telos SNARKtor decentralized recursive authentication aggregator. According to Lilick, the move is part of their efforts to become a “network of networks.”

Still in the early stages

While ZK systems have a lot to be excited about in the future, the chatGPT era for these technologies may not be in the near future.

Richard Meissner, co-founder of Cef (formerly Gnosis Cef), which leverages ZK systems' cross-chain patents, says ZK technology is still in an “early development phase.”

The executive said more optimization is still needed to encourage adoption. Meissner explained:

“There was interest in the technology and in the last two months it was possible to see examples of all kinds of use cases based on ZK-proofs. For example, cross-chain patents for smart tags.”

Meanwhile, Terence Kwok, founder of Humanity Protocol, which uses ZK systems in its ecosystem, described ZK's current status as “promising and growing.” Kwok expressed his hope for ZK's role in shaping more secure, private and decentralized environments.

Kwok added that there are ongoing research and development efforts aimed at overcoming ZK's limitations and expanding its functionality.

“With innovations such as improved scalability and usability, ZK technology has great potential for further adoption in various domains,” Kwok added.

Why should people care about ZK?

Meissner points out that blockchains are transparent in principle. However, the executive also noted that publicly visible transactions may not be appropriate for all use cases.

Any fully trustless interaction between the two parties could require ZK's technology to “verify certain credentials without revealing sensitive details to process insecure transactions,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lilik gave examples of why people should be concerned about ZK's technology. The basic idea of ​​the executive is to “make sure you know what something is without being told.”

Lilik said a potential use case for this technology would be in car rental with a blockchain system integrated with crypto payments. According to ZK's director, if people want to rent a car, it may not be good if the blockchain system shows a person's identification documents to others.

You wouldn't use a blockchain system to rent your car if your license and ID documents were on the chain for everyone to see. all right? It's not worth it.”

However, Lilik said with ZK, people can simply go into a car rental shop and generate proof that they have a valid license on their device and meet the requirements for people who can drive.

“Instead of giving your permission, you only share evidence that you have permission. And rightly so. And these attributes are valid,” Lilik added.

Web3 scale is based on ZK.

Apart from these, Kwok recognizes that ZK's technology is critical to Web 3 as the industry continues to encourage individuals to take control of their personal data. Kwok said:

“At a time when data breaches and privacy breaches are so common, ZK technology acts as a shield, allowing individuals to verify their identity and secure transactions without exposing sensitive details.”

Kwok believes that users should try to understand the concept behind ZK as it allows them to make more informed decisions about the Web3 applications they use and share their data.
