Sandbox Founder 2024 Game Choices: Shrapnel, Star Atlas and My Pet Hooligan

Sebastien Bourget, founder of The Sandbox, said interest in blockchain gaming is on the rise and 2024 will be a big year for the industry, with Web2 Studios joining the fray.

“I believe that the attractiveness of the Web3 gaming space for the next phase of growth is more tied to the launch of promising game titles developed by large Web2 companies,” he told Web3 Gamer.

Bourget is particularly excited about the launch of first-person shooter Shrapnel, space-themed strategy game Star Atlas and battle royale NFT game My Pet Hooligan.

Another new trend Borget noticed is that Web3 games are moving towards educating and rewarding players for their skills, especially when they win quests and missions. He said this would help to improve and attract players.

But, coming from the Web2 gaming world where games wowed players with leaps in graphics and Internet technology, Powell said Web3 devs had to develop their creativity to push those same boundaries.

“I think all games should try to push the boundaries and think outside the box,” she says.

Additionally, Powell indicated that old-school gaming big-shots should open their eyes to the benefits of blockchain infrastructure.

“Even traditional game studios should take advantage of the security benefits of Web3 as Internet computing. Imagine not having to worry about account breaches, for example?”

But Powell emphasized that there's no need to separate Web3 games into their own sub-genre. Once you play the game, you won't be able to tell the difference.

“Web3 is the core technology; it should be invisible to the user,” she says.

That's pretty quick compared to a real-life pool, unless your partner decides to sink the black right off the bat.

There's this strangely soothing feeling when you play pool on your phone, similar to the satisfaction you get from winning Angry Birds.

You line up your angle, pull the trigger back and blast (hopefully, it goes in).

It has all the angles on the screen; You will feel like a mathematician. It's a real treat – if the corners show up after a drink or two at the real pool tables in the pub.

The graphics on the pool table are top notch, and the table cloth is probably the cleanest and crispest you'll ever see on a pool table. But let's be honest, it's a pool game, not some chaotic RPG – and at Web3 Games Studio Joyride, you'd expect nothing less.

These guys are experts in making blockchain-powered mobile games and have some big hitters like Coinbase Ventures, Animoca Brands, and Solana Ventures.

The game has good fluidity. In the 24 hours leading up to the deadline, there were 61,800 transactions, totaling $1,620.

That breaks down to an average transaction of… $0.026.

However, one thing threw me off a bit during registration – they ask for your mobile phone number and prompt you for a verification text, which is unusual in the blockchain gaming space.

I hesitated, thinking I was about to be bombarded with game ads.

10 minutes later, I get a text saying 50% off sale, and here we go.

But it was just my Nana hitting me up with the new New Year's clothing sale deals.

Long story short, no gameplay promo yet. If you're worried about dropping your digit, it looks pretty safe.

Notecoin is not good and doesn't even have a token yet

Notcoin, a game on the Telegram app, registered more than 6 million users and 1.2 million daily active users within 10 days of its launch on January 1.

The project has branded itself as a viral Web3 clicker game. It's just a click of a button to stack more Notcoins. It appears that one trillion Notecoins have already been mined.

But here's the kicker – these points are worthless. People are doing it, crossing their fingers for crypto and hoping for an airdrop. Now, that's kind of gambling with the times you ask me. The official statement reads:

“There is no Notcoin token, and Notcoin has no market value. Notcoin functions as an in-game virtual asset in the Telegram Web3 ecosystem and does not function as a cryptocurrency.

Most of the activities to earn extra coins are pretty boring, involving free marketing activities like signing up for Telegram, Discord, Twitter or other Web3 projects.

The only one that seems to be of some use to users is putting your own tote bag in future airdrops. That is, of course, if you decide to start.
