Agents of Multicoin Capital, the Institutional ‘Fringe’ in 2025

Multicoin Capital expects 2025 to be a “pivotal year” for Web3 as artificial intelligence blossoms and tokenization and tokenization become “institutionalized madness,” the venture capital firm said in a Jan. 7 report.

Dubbed “Frontier Ideas for 2025,” the report predicts that AI-driven “zero-labor companies” and the “breakneck pace” of institutional adoption as security tokens will eventually “take off in a meaningful way.”

Meanwhile, investors are turning to AI agent “alpha hunters” to explore the growth of new tokens and crypto-native financial products, the report said.

Institutional adoption

Analysts Expect 2025 to be one of the best crypto years ever, fueled by President Donald Trump's victory in the US November election and institutional inflows into Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

“With the pro-crypto administration coming to power in the US and record-breaking BTC ETFs, we see a 5-year run of institutional complacency to find ways to support crypto as soon as possible,” Multicoin said.

In November, the US BTC ETF broke $100 billion in net assets for the first time, according to data from Bloomberg Intelligence.

Multicoin expects tokenized private credit and startup equity to bloom early, with public equity tokens to rise later. Meanwhile, almost every incumbent financial institution is racing to “provide basic financial products around crypto.

“Blockchains ensure that all participants have access to a real-time immutable record of transactions. This level of transparency and security is in stark contrast to the opaque and sometimes risky centralized databases of traditional finance,” said Multicoin.

In the year By 2025, agent AIs—machines that autonomously pursue complex goals—will be reshaping the digital economy, building Web3 applications, launching tokens, and interacting autonomously with people.

Now, starting with “advanced chain reasoning models; [AI] Models are getting to the point where they can think, plan, execute and self-correct along the way,” Multicoin said.

“This provides the basis for AI agents to perform all functions in business.”

Multicoin expects “the next generation of AI agents to be alpha hunters – that is, their only job is to hunt alpha and trade autonomously in real time.

Eventually, Multicoin predicts that “crypto capital markets will fund efforts at zero-employee companies,” which could lead to “dramatic breakthroughs in all business operations.”
