ai16z's Eliza Labs, Stanford clinch AI research partnership

Eliza Labs, the developer behind ai16z, announced on Dec. 16 that it has partnered with Stanford University's Future of Digital Currency Initiative to research how artificial intelligence agents can improve the Web3.

The collaboration uses Eliza Labs' open-source AI agent framework, named Eliza, to “address fundamental questions about how AI agents can establish trust, coordinate actions and make decisions in decentralized financial systems,” Eliza Labs said.

Starting in 2025, the researchers' priorities include:[d]Developing New Frameworks for How Autonomous Agents Establish and Verify Trust in Digital Currency Networks” and “[i]Examining how agents interact and cooperate in an economic context.

“It's a unique opportunity to shape how AI agents interact in the digital economy,” Stanford professors Dan Boneh and David Maziers said in a statement.

Eliza is the AI agent behind ai16z, a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) designed to use Eliza to guide onchain trading and investment decisions.

Native AI16Z has launched a market capitalization of nearly $850 million since its launch in October.

As of Dec. 16, ai16z manages nearly $15 million, and Eliza-based AI agents are used in dozens of projects, according to the ai16z website.

“If we're comparing this meta to the winter of Diffie, $ai16z is the $AAVE of this world… it's the technology that everyone is rooting for,” said crypto anonymous cryptocurrency influencer 0xMerp in a November 18 X post.

Merp decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Aave is hinting at a significant role in the decentralized finance 2021 bull market.

As of October 2024, AI-themed memecoins have collectively launched with a market capitalization of more than $3 billion, according to CoinGecko.

Other popular AI memecoins are Zerebro (ZEREBRO) and aixbt in Virtuals (AIXBT), with market capitalizations of approximately $375 million and $250 million, respectively, as of December 16, CoinGecko reported.

Analysts expect the integration of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology to transform the Web3 and eventually create a world where autonomous AI agents interact freely with humans on the Web3.
