Aster enables strategic buybacks after price declines.
The price of the ASTER token slid more than 12% on Monday, hitting new all-time lows even as the Aster protocol moved to activate its long-planned token buyback strategy.
The initiative aims to stabilize prices and restore market confidence as token purchases affect supply forces.

Repurchases begin when ASTER registers low and market pressure intensifies
According to CoinGecko, the ASTER token was trading at $0.63 as of this writing, down more than 12% in the last 24 hours.
The decline coincided with the start of Esther's systematic buyback program. ASTER launched strategic token purchases in the early hours of the Asian session on Monday after its price hit a record low of $0.61.
“We are now actively deploying our Strategic Purchase Reserve for $ASTER token purchases. In addition to our Level 5 buyback program announced last month, this activation allocates 20-40% of daily platform fees to targeted purchases, dynamically responding to market conditions to maximize value and reduce liquidity,” Aster said in a post.
The move highlights the tension between short-term price weakness and long-term toconomic interventions.
Aster's price decline comes as broader market uncertainty continues to put pressure on smaller DEX tokens.

However, fee-driven recoveries can meaningfully take away sell-side momentum, with ASTER's latest move accelerating the group's response amid rising volatility.
Accordingly, Aster has begun deploying capital from its strategic acquisition pool by enabling automatic purchases tied directly to platform revenue.

Meanwhile, the latest activation is part of Aster's extensive Phase 5 rollback program that rolled out in late December. The team proposed the ASTER token as a structured approach to support protocol-generated payments instead of interest intervention.
At that time, Esther outlined a two-track approach that combines predictability with flexibility.
“Phase 5 Buyback Program: Structured Support for $ASTER We are implementing a strategic buyback program designed to strengthen $ASTER tokenomics and create sustainable value for our community,” Aster wrote on December 22.
The protocol says it will allocate up to 80% of daily platform fees to purchases starting December 23, 2025.
Under the framework, “Automatic Daily Procurement (40% Payments)—provides automated daily, continuous chain support and gradual supply reduction.

This creates a predictable basis for token value, where transactions are transferred in a dedicated wallet.
In parallel, a strategic return reserve (20%-40% of fees) is allocated to targeted acquisitions based on market conditions. This reserve achieves the flexibility to respond to volatility and create maximum value as opportunities arise.
He agrees with what Liter DEX did recently, but the market reaction to the LIT token was different, with the altcoin rallying nearly 20%.
Therefore, ASTER's continued slide could be after purchases made in protocol-existing hidden or thin liquid markets. Hence, the token is now trading at low lows.
