Acting CFTC Chairwoman Caroline Pham is joining crypto payments firm MoonPay as chief legal and administrative officer, according to a report from the US.
Her departure comes as Senate confirmation prepares for Mike Selig to replace her, completing a four-year term that included the final year as acting chairman. At MoonPay Fam, he oversees global legal and governance operations and leads the company's policy and regulatory strategy in Washington.
She joined the CFTC after a year of major crypto-specific reforms, pushed initiatives to bring listed crypto products to federally regulated markets, and launched a pilot program to use BTC, ETH and USDC as collateral in derivatives trading.
Pham to overturn previous guidance on digital asset offerings, established the CFTC's CEO Innovation Council and developed a regulatory sandbox for tokenized treasuries and money market funds. Her collaboration with SEC Chairman Paul Atkins marked a shift in closer coordination between the agencies on crypto, DeFi and derivatives.
Moonpay CEO Evan Soto-Wright called her “one of the most influential leaders in US financial regulation” and an excellent choice to lead the firm's next phase. Prior to the CFTC, Pham spent seven years at Citigroup.
