Coinbase has entered into an agreement to acquire The Clearing Company as it expands event-based trading. Pending customary conditions, the deal is expected to close in January.

The cladding company, founded earlier this year by Tony Gemayel, who was head of development at Polymarket and Kalshi, is a US-based start-up focused on building infrastructure for speculative markets, while still being on-chain and compliant with US standards.

With the acquisition, the team brings deep prediction market expertise that it plans to use to scale this new category following Coinbase's recent rollout of consumer prediction markets.

The move supports Coinbase's vision of an “everything exchange,” where users can trade all asset classes.

Prior to the acquisition, The Clearing Company raised $15 million in a seed round in August, led by heavyweights such as Union Square Ventures and Coinbase Ventures.
