Crypto is the second most popular investment asset in France: survey
According to a study by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and published by France's main financial regulator, the Financial Markets Authority (AMF), cryptocurrencies are the second most popular investment asset among the French adult population. November 13.
According to the survey, 9.4% of the French population owns crypto assets, which is far less than real estate funds (10.7%), the most popular investment asset. An additional 2.8% of respondents own non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The survey measured a group of “new investors” who invested for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020. These are mainly men (64%) and significantly less than traditional investors. Average age 36 versus 51 for the latter. In this category, 54% hold crypto assets.

The survey's authors noted that new individual investors have “relatively low levels of financial literacy,” particularly the youngest group, the 18-24 age group. They are more likely to give wrong answers than “traditional investors” about the basics of investment strategy.
The survey was conducted in the spring of 2023, with 1,056 respondents and 40 in-depth interviews about their interests and motivations.
France is actively pursuing a leading role in Europe in the digital economy and innovation. In September, domestic telecommunications group Iliad invested 100 million euros ($106 million) in Paris to create an “advanced laboratory” dedicated to AI research. This month, the first of its kind Crypto-assets Institute was opened in a business district outside of Paris.
