Ethereum targets 200M gas before Glumsterdam update
The Ethereum Foundation has reached several milestones on the next iteration of Ethereum, dubbed “Glamsterdam,” and has named three new leaders for the protocol team.
The Ethereum Foundation said in a blog post on Monday that it had achieved its “trusted post-glusterdam target” by establishing a gas limit floor of 200 million, which would increase the network's maximum post-update rate to about 60 million from now.
“The immediate focus is to ship Glumsterdam,” said the Ethereum Foundation, which had originally planned for the upgrade in June, but now it could be in the third quarter of 2026.
Glamsterdam will focus on scaling the Layer-1 chain by reorganizing how the network processes transactions and manages its growing database, “basically updating how Ethereum creates and validates blocks.”
The Ethereum Foundation continues preparations for Hegota, the next major upgrade, and Strawmap, a quantum-ready roadmap.
“The Glamsterdam devnets are on now, and the search for Hegota is very much underway,” he said at an Interp event in Svalbard, Norway.
Completing EPBS and more modern data storage
EF also proved to stabilize promoter-builder separation (ePBS).
The new sealed version builds this separation directly into Ethereum's rules and is less dependent on external relays, giving the network more time to securely manage large blocks.

The EIP-8037 is also complete, allowing for a smart value for storing data. The proposal would increase the cost of state creation operations, avoiding excessive state development amid increased gas restrictions.

Changes in EF protocol management
The Foundation has announced the “beginning of a leadership transition” for the Ethereum Foundation Protocol Cluster, with Will Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn and developer Fredrick as new leaders.
Ethereum developers Barnabe Monot and Tim Beiko are moving on from the foundation, while Alex Stokes said he will remain on sabbatical.
“A new chapter has begun for the Protocol Cluster. We're welcoming new leaders and coordinators, and we'll continue our work on Glamsterdam, Hegota and Strawmap,” Corcoran said on Monday at X.
“It's on my mind to make Ethereum's unique features more accessible to users today, as well as to get more people involved in the ways Ethereum is built,” Monot said.
